Dragonfly Whispers By Beth TinningYou have been offered an opportunity to share a journey with
ten very special women through magical terrain. Magical, you
ask? Don't you mean difficult, heartbreaking, cruel or perhaps
challenging?
No, the women who opened up parts of their lives for this
booklet chose the word 'magic' with deliberation. Dragonfly
Whispers chronicles much more than the challenges these
women have faced. Yes, there are times when the women
connect with feelings of outrage and fear. As the landscapes
of violence and Family Law evolve you will also bear witness
to stories of courage and hope and commitments to truth,
integrity and optimism. |
 | Seeking Safety, Needing Support Prepared by Beth TinningDuring the nine months from April to December 2005, Sera’s Women’s Shelter
auspiced a research project with the purpose of exploring the needs of women
accessing the Family Court where there was violence occurring in the family. Fortytwo
women participated in qualitative, semi structured interviews designed to elicit
in depth information about their journey through the Family Court. Thirty-eight of
these granted permission for the information to be included in a public document.
The collated data indicates that the needs of women who are separating from an
abusive partner are distinctly different from other separating couples.
This report recommends the development of a program of support for women
accessing the Family Court in Townsville where violence is occurring in the family |

Rise
By Ingrid PoulsonRise is not about the worst that can happen in life; it's about how to respond when the worst has already happened...
In 2003, Ingrid Poulson's estranged husband killed their two young children and Ingrid's father. After time, Ingrid chose to start with survival and build from there. She recognised her resilience and chose to rise to the challenge of overcoming unimaginable tragedy.
Few people have to suffer events such as those that Ingrid experienced. But everyone has to deal with challenges, hardships and grief in everyday life. The ability to be resilient in the face of these can mean the difference between getting through troubled times and living life to the fullest, and succumbing to their pressures.
Everyone who has met Ingrid is inspired by her clarity and courage. Through the four main components of her program of resilience – Resolve, Identity, Support and Everyday resilience – she shares the skills and practices she has developed to not only survive but to live a rich and rewarding life.
"In the few short years since the event that left me with nothing, I have been told that I have a charmed life, that I'm lucky and that I am the subject of envy. Many, many people have asked me how I do it, how I survive, and this book is the answer to that question." |
